April love
The only sound was the hum of bees.
I lay on my back, on the grass and looked slowly at the wandering white clouds. They appeared like ships finding their way in the eternal blue of the sky and then disappearing into infinity, changing shapes constantly only to dissolve in the sky.
I wanted to stay there forever and integrate into the nature. Merge completely with her, her memories.
How were those days, many years ago in the summer weeks? A long, long time ago. I suddenly remembered her black hair, bright black eyes, or were they grey with brown spots?
To laugh, to run in the lanes then the tiring breathless pause, climbing trees, falling hard on the ground and the smell of the earth.
How long ago was that? It seemed like another life to me.
We promised to never separate and made small rings of grass, which were to be a part of us forever. We wanted to find the magic garden, run over the rainbow, laughing together. We promised eternal love. We were just thirteen.
My most memorable experiences took place in April of that year, in the summer weeks of Rajasthan, which was the last time I saw her. My parents used to come here only in April and bring the whole family to spend the summers with the grandparents. They were so busy trying to make the old house habitable, that they would completely forget to worry about me. The only thing required was, that I was present at meals and without any injuries.
So it happened that we met daily in the morning and were able to roam all day, interrupted only by meals.
The old abandoned haveli, our hideout. We explored our secrets, discovered feelings and reactions that appeared unique to us, just the two of us.
Saying goodbye to the summer was harder that year. We did not live in the same city, we wanted to write, but somehow it did not happen. I lost the address of her memories, in the everyday routine. But as summer came, I waited impatiently for April. I was there, but could not find her. Her family had left the city. My disappointment was great.
I never saw her again. How many years had passed since then?
These had to be ten years ago!
Incredible as it appeared to me, the memory was as fresh as if it were yesterday.
The evening bells from the nearby temple were heard and I stood up.
There was someone standing near that old haveli, leaning against the tree, looking over at me. I could not exactly see the face, it was in the shade. I walked to look closer.
There, I stood before her.
"You," I asked incredulously.
"Yes, and you are...?"
It was April again and we had a lot, almost a lifetime to tell.
