First Kiss
15th December, our first date. The rains had ruined all my plans. We were sitting in the car, in the back seats. It was a hatchback, a little cramped for the two of us.
The radio was playing nice vintage seventies songs. "Ek ajnabee haseena se, yun mulakaat ho gai; Fir kya hua? Ye na pucho, kuch aisi baat ho gai." Neither I was Kishorkumar nor Mohammed Rafi, but I could sing all their songs in her ears, slowly.
She liked it, I knew.
I could see her smile, hidden behind the silky strands covering her face. Her smile, it made my heart skip a beat. She said, "I have to leave."
"No, wait." I replied.
"What’s the matter?" she asked.
"I thought we had some more time. I mean, I haven't yet said everything I wanted to say. It’s been on my mind for long but there was no time to say."
"What do you want to say?"
"I Love You, I wanted to say I Love You," and with great courage I somehow managed to hold her hand, actually just her ring finger. She smiled at me with innocence. That look, I could not resist and leaned to kiss her. Our first kiss and it started raining again.
