The Reunion

The reunion

When The Lord called him, he had to go. It was his time, but she could not follow him. No, The Lord had not deserted her. It was not her time, the candle of her life was still burning. A small stub was left. So The Lord took only him.

An old man, standing all alone in front of the big gate. All the Angels of the heaven had gathered there already, ready in their festive costumes to welcome him. But the man looked sad. "What happened, my son? Are you not happy to enter the gates of heaven?," inquired The Lord. "I am, but; how long will it take before I see my beloved Pia again?" he asked The Lord. "Have patience, Prashay, her candle is still burning. She will when her time comes." The Lord replied with a kind smile.

And every day the old man went into the hall of candles to see her candle. Every day he would notice it burned out a bit more.

"Whether I could possibly blow it out? Only if I would breathe a little heavily, it would go out. Definitely nobody would notice," he thought to himself. "Don't you dare, my friend," he heard The Lord's voice behind him. The Lord smiled, "I know the wait's hard for you, but let me tell you,  do not cross me in my craft; I can do better than you because its me who directs the destinies of the world. Have patience and trust me. Just look, she's doing really well."
And the old man looked down at the ground, and was reassured.

But his longing grew, every day a little more. He asked the wind for help, "O great wind! You are so strong. Can't you blow just a small stub of candle from the candles hall? If not blow out then just a small hint of wind?"

"How could you imagine that before her time?" the wind replied angrily. "What if all go out? And if not, then perhaps a wrong one. You see those big candles around her's? Those are your children and grandchildren. If I was to put out one of them by mistake, how would it make you feel?" And the wind blew away angrily.

The old man realised his mistake and the only hope left was to go every day in the candle room.

Then finally it was time. No blazing bright yellow flame anymore. Only a tiny blue flickering flame. The wax was just a liquid puddle.

Excited the old man ran to The Lord, "Lord, Lord, open the big gate on the candle is out."
"I know, my son," replied The Lord. "Go ahead. I will come right away."

When the old man reached the gate, all the Angels of heaven were gathered already. They were dressed in their most festive costumes. Ready with their musical instruments to welcome her. Excited, the old man waited.

Then the Lord came. He put the big bolt to the rear and pushed both wings of the great door wide open. The instruments were played, the sun shone and bathed everything in a golden light.

There she stood.

The old man stretched out his arms, "Oh Pia, you are here at last. So long, I waited. I missed you. Don't let me be alone anymore."

And they embraced.
