The Bench
A bench on the cliff. The sea roars and carries the salty smell of the open sea with it. The wind sings a song that tells a story that has long since passed. The stars shine in the sky and the moon spreads its light over the land.
Lonely, a boy on the bench. A sigh escaped his lips, one could see his shoulders shaking. For a long time he sat there, lost in thoughts. He thought of the future, of the past, of a girl he loved and about the love that had corroded his heart. Sitting alone, with a note in his hand. Slowly, he unfolded it and read it. The letters were type written but every word was dripped in love, so much love that one could feel it already. Only the lower end was graced by his writing. A name and contact number. With a dreamy smile he let the note disappear in his pocket and then looked up at the moon.
After a while, a figure walking slowly under the moonlight approached from behind. Cautiously, she looked over to the bench and saw the boy. Her black hair was tied back in a ponytail, it shone in the moonlight. Slowly she approached the bench and followed the boy's sight. Her eyes seemed empty.
Startled the boy jumped as he felt the presence of another person. He could not believe his sight, because he seemed to be still trapped in his dreams. "Pia?" He asked, surprised, still dreaming. The girl looked him in the eye. "Yes?" She answered and their eyes met, as so often in college. 3 years had pass since the farewell. The last day of college, the last time their eyes met and the last time he saw her.
"What are you doing at this late hour here?" He asked, still trying to believe his eyes. "I'm just doing my evening stroll." she curtly replied, because she had not yet recognised the boy and was therefore repellent. Suddenly it came to her mind, who was standing before her.
"Prashay?" She breathed softly, a light, pleasant smile came to her lips. Prashay replied that smile, long he had dreamt to meet her somewhere alone. Once again, shyness rose in him and he did not know what to say.
"I did not expect you here." Said the boy and you could hear the truth in the words. Pia looked at him and smiled again.
Nervous Prashay played with the note, which he carried in the inside pocket of his coat. This note was intended for her, but he was not sure if he should give it to her. Her reaction, he could not foresee and therefore hesitated, but he realised then that this was the right moment and removed the note from his pocket.
"This is for you." He stuttered, holding the piece of paper out. With appraising glance, she looked at the paper and slowly took it in her hand.
"What is it?" She asked uncertainly, looking up at him, but he did not answer her. She carefully unfolded the note and held it against the moonlight, so that she could read the writing. Her face was silent, only her eyes showed that she had read the note. Her hands began to tremble slightly. Prashay could see something glittering in her eyes.
"Are you cold?" He asked concerned. There was no reply, just silence. Something dripped onto the paper, leaving a wet spot. Prashay looked at her and could not look away. Slowly, she looked up.
"This... this comes from your hand? It's beautiful. I have never read such words." She said, sobbing, and the letter slipped from her hand. Slowly it danced away in the wind. For a few seconds they looked at each other. Tears ran over Pia's face.
"You ... you ..." Her voice croaked. Her eyes staring at him. There was a smile on his lips that she had never seen before. Slowly, she took a step forward and hugged him. Puzzled, he held her tight.
"It's all right." He said softly and reassuringly. His voice was tender and loving. A dream come true for him. She moved her head and looked up at him. In her eyes there was happiness and yet she was crying. "I love you too." She breathed and snuggled closer to him. He enjoyed her warmth, because it was something that he hoped for a long time.
Her chin was on his chest and she looked up at him. Slowly, he leaned down, her lips came closer and they kissed. The seconds seemed to last forever and gave happiness of a life-time. His dream was finally becoming a reality.
